In simple terms, oversteer is

In simple terms, oversteer is when the back end of the car slides out in a turn (ie the front wheels are tracking better through the turn than the rear wheels). Understeer is when the front tires lose grip in a turn and the car feels like it is "plowing" straight ahead in a turn.

When you accelerate, the weight of your Miata will shift toward the rear of the car and help it get more grip from the rear tires. Braking will shift the weight of the car to the fron tires and help them gain grip, or loosen the rear end enough to get the car to rotate a bit more around a tight turn. You have to avoid the instinct to lift on the throttle when you feel the back end of the car slipping out becasue that will just make things worse. If you accelerate, you can shift the weight to the back and regain grip. Learning to control and transfer the weight of the car from front to back is key to fast driving though turns. Common wisdom is go slow into the turn and fast out.

Over steering usualy happens

Over steering usualy happens when you:

Entering the corner too fast
Accelerating into the corner, too early or too aggressively
Braking into the corner or mid corner
Lifting off the throttle mid-corner.
