!996 Tire Sizes

Hey there!
I bought a 1996 Miata about 3 years ago. It is in perfect shape with 60,000 miles.
I'm ready to replace the tires, but am a bit confused.
On the car now are General P175/65 R14 - 81T tires. All four.
Yet the manual calls for P185/60 R14 - 82H fronts and P195/50 R15 - 81V rears.
Why would a previous owner have changed the sizes, if they actually did?
Anybody have a recomendation?
Thanks

No it doesn't. Obviously you have literacy issues. There are plenty of reasons to change tire sizes, but I won't go into any of that, as I suspect it'd be lost. I'd suggest reading up on tires, but, well, see the first comment.

you cant do that!!!!

if the car has factory 14 inch wheels, you cant put 195/50 r15 on that wheel. its just not safe. for one the rim wont be as wide as needed the tire be, two the rim is a full inch shorter leaving too much gap for the air to fill. its just not safe.

My suggestion is that if you have the factory rims, go with the factory recommended tire size. It is the size tire the car performs best with from the factory and the size the car is designed for. Mazda knows best.

??confusing??

i would measure the rims myself before doing anything else. if the rims are the same size then i would buy matching tires all the way around. if not, you have me lost. i am not aware of mazda ever putting different size wheels on their miatas. i have a 95 m edition with the bbs, so my tires a falcon ziex912's 195/50/r15 82h. just be sure that you match your new tires with some that match the rims, width and height. side wall makes no difference
