Brake problems after changing pads

Thanks for taking an interest and I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. I'm new to the Miatacommunity. I just bought a 2nd gen Miata it's a 1999, it's a yard car for sure... The previous owner said it was sitting for about a year and some odd months he said he had recently bled the brakes and was in the process of replacing the brake system but money became an issue. Anyways I just changed replaced the brake pads. I've noticed that I gain pressure after pumping the brakes but lose pressure almost immediately after. I don't believe there's a kink in any of the brake lines. (haven't noticed any puddles or stains around the tires and the master cylinder has the same amount of brake fluid that I had put in) Does this mean that the brakes need a bleeding and the previous owner is a liar? also I've noticed a grinding sound coming from the rear disks. This is also the first brake system that I've ever worked on.

Also the car has sat for about a year and 5 months. It had a 1/4 a tank a gas... I just mixed the old gas with a 93 octane gas and a bottle of fuel injector cleaner... Are there any other steps I need to take. I get different answers when it comes to the fuel filter... Some say the fuel filter is fine Others say it needs to be replaced

let's keep these updates

let's keep these updates coming!!!

well well well

Sounds to me that the brake lines have swelled and need to be replaced (i suggest stainless steel brake lines). and in order to change brake lines, you need to bleed them so theres 2 birds with one stone. And the grinding sound sounds like the rotors need to be resurfaced. As far as the fuel filter goes, as long as there was enough gas in the tank to keep the fuel filter wet, then all should be well. I hope this helps!

thanks

Well it turns out the the lines were fine. It ended up being my master cylinder. I went ahead and just bought new rotors. Now with the new rotors do I need new pads also? I've only driven about 15 miles since i changed the pads.

i agree with 95merlot

i agree with 95merlot .....your current pads should be fine with only 15 miles put on them.

no need to.

If the pads are brand new or if they have plenty of padding left then there should be no need to.
